SAGE’s first season of resurrecting neglected and historic trails was a big one. Bringing online these three effectively doubled the available mileage in the Santa Ynez Recreation Area, and added much needed alternates to the well loved Camuesa Connector and Santa Cruz. The region is steeped in history, with these trails being the product of massive public works projects of the early 1900s, Spanish land grant days, and Chumash trade routes. It’s an honor to breathe life back into the living pieces of rich cultural and historic significance that these trails are. While currently closed due to storm damage sustained in 2023, SAGE is preparing for a big rebuild of this network in Winter ‘26.
